Via Directsattv.com - OTT Report: A FOX Hot Button
The ongoing bickering between cable and FOX continues as consumers have begun to find alternative subscribers.
Cable TV ratings have dropped precipitously in the last month, forcing Cablevision owner James Dolan to ask for a face to face meeting with FOX president Chase Carey and FCC chairman Julius Genachowski in order to hammer out a deal. In a letter to the FCC Chairman, Dolan indicated that without a mediator, the negotiations cannot move forward. He also insisted that will come to the table with new, constructive offers in an effort to compromise. However, both the FCC and FOX representatives believe this is merely a public relations ploy, given that the letter was not sent in private.
Dolan's letter likely comes as a direct response to the plummeting cable TV ratings the provider has received since the cease and desist was issued on all FOX programming. Many experts contend that the letter itself was not directed at FOX or the FCC, but rather to the customers themselves, in a desperate gambit to prevent them from switching to more dependable programming such as DIRECTV. In reality, OTT services have stated that Cablevision refuses to compromise on one key issue, the exclusive access to FOX's online service, including major providers like Hulu. Furthermore, FOX lawyers were forced to send a cease and desist letter to Cablevision after it directed many of its subscribers to websites that illegally showed FOX programming.
As the negotiations continue, customers of Cablevision continue to suffer. As cable TV ratings drop and even loyal viewers are deprived of premier events like the World Series, DIRECTV continues to offer both local channels and sports packages such as MLB Extra Innings, which allows you to watch every game in high definition. DIRECTV continue to integrate the online experience and develop a wide array of local and premier programming. As cable TV ratings suffer, many viewers have found satellite television to be more affordable and dependable, with providers such as DIRECTV owning exclusive rights to channels that companies such as Cablevision continue to squabble over. As cable tries to prevent the loss of even the most basic channels, DIRECTV continues to expand. For dependable programming and DIRECTV, call 866-310-4985 to order.
