Via Directsattv.com - It has been six months since Michael White left a very powerful and lucrative job as head of Pepsi International and Vice Chair of PepsiCo to become the CEO of America's largest satellite
direct television providing company DirecTV . High profile transfers of CEOs happen from time to time in business, but this was a fairly remarkable transfer.
He recently gave an interview to Multichannel News about his time at his new
direct television company DirecTV . DirecTV now offers more than 200 HD channels, but one interesting development is that they have begun to offer, already, one the very first fully
3D HDTV channels. When asked about this, White said he believed that his direct television company DirecTV was "just scratching the surface on 3D. That’s just beginning, really, and I think that will continue to grow in the years ahead, but it’s in its infancy right now.
With more and more 3D movies appearing in theaters and taking advantage of advanced technologies, television is only now just beginning to get into the 3D revolution, but DIRECTV seems to be at the forefront of the movement.
3D is not the only place where direct television DirecTV is trying to innovate. Smith, chairman of the satellite direct television company DIRECTV stated that his company as well is looking into adding in things from the web to its subscribers. When prompted for an example, he was asked whether he meant user-generated content like YouTube videos, or content that was more from seasoned broadcast organizations. "All of the above" was his answer, and he gave an example of something they were already working on. According to him, DirecTV will offer the capability to stream NFL games in their Sunday Ticket package straight to consumer's iPads who purchased the service.
There may yet be some more changes coming down the pipe for DIRECTV. There has been speculation outside the company that DIRECTV may be considering adding in broadband internet to its bundles across the country, and Smith was a bit more mum on specifics about that. He did say that that he believed that such a bundle "is an important strategy for us, but we’ve been doing it by partnering up with a number of different telcos (telecommunication companies)." He also stated that his company has enough partnerships with different telcos to cover about 90% of America with, as he put it, "more robust bundled offerings." There might be something to the future possibilities there for DIRECTV.
