DIRECTV 3D and Panasonic to Fund Six Short 3D Films

Via Directsattv.com - DIRECTV and Panasonic have teamed up to fund six filmmakers in an inaugural contest where the winner receives $25,000. These brands are partnering to fund the six separate 3D projects, which include training on Panasonic 3D cameras and other 3D equipment and technology. The DIRECTV n3D Film Invitational Presented by Panasonic will take place at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles this summer. The winner of this inaugural 3D film festival will take home a $25,000 grand prize and all six participants will have their films aired on DIRECTV’s 24-hour 3D network, n3D, which is powered by Panasonic. In addition to the grand prize, a 3D Technical Achievement Award will be presented by Technicolor to the film that best exemplifies mastery of 3D movie making technology, a prize of $5,000.

The six 3D filmmakers were chosen by a panel of judges from DIRECTV, Panasonic and Technicolor when they submitted live action short film concepts that worked with the theme of “anything is possible”. While DIRECTV 3D has not announced the names of the filmmakers, they are sure to be on their way to being a few of a small group of technicians that can make 3D films and will have all the tools they need to make a name for themselves. Each crew gets to send members of their production team to Technicolor’s 3D Master Class and receive a 3D content certification from Technicolor’s Certifi3D. They also get Panasonic training on their own 3D cameras, access to DIRECTV’s post-production facilities, and many other forms of technical training and assistance over the next few months to prepare their short films.
