Via Directsattv.com - Time Warner is a company that has had its issues over the years. The particular issue in question here is blackouts. The company over the years has had a tumultuous relationship with its various content providers, leading the providers to occasionally threaten a blackout if their contractual demands aren't met.
This time around,
Time Warner Fayetteville is among those who might be affected for the latest blackout. And that is not particularly new here, either. In 2000,
Time Warner Fayetteville was among the affiliates of the conglomerate that had their local ABC channel, WTVD, blacked out during contract negotiations with ABC's parent company, Disney.
The time for contract negotiations between Time Warner and Disney has come again, and once again, it is a tumultuous affair. Disney has threatened to black out all of its programming to four markets: New York; Los Angeles; Toledo, Ohio; and the Fayetteville, North Carolina metropolitan area. ABC and Disney programming does not just include the local ABC affiliate lost in 2000, but also includes ESPN programming, Disney Channel programming, and the SOAP Network, as well as ABC Family. These are all networks that are involved in negotiations this time; it is possible that WTVD might not be the only network lost to Time Warner Cable subscribers this time around, if no agreement is made.
Time Warner Fayetteville has assured its viewers that they expect to have a deal with the Disney conglomerate soon, and no doubt local subscribers hope that they will have things in order. The Disney corporation has stated that if no deal is reached by September 2, they will institute a blackout on all their programming in the area from WTVD, certainly. A spokeswoman for Time Warner Fayetteville , Andi Curtis, said that if an agreement is not made, it is possible that Time Warner will no longer carry ABC. Theoretically, other stations in the ABC network may be affected as well.
If that is indeed the case, the company will probably have to deal with a lot of angry subscribers. Many of their customers might even decide to switch television providers altogether, looking into other cable providers or perhaps satellite television.
